The Lagos State Government has highlighted several investment opportunities available in the wastewater management sub-sector of the Lagos economy. Engineer Adebola M. Mantami, the General Manager of the Wastewater Management Office in Lagos, listed the opportunities during a special interview broadcast on NTA-2.

He invited interested members of the public to efficiently utilize these potentials inherently residing in the wastewater sector. The potentials listed include: Haulage of Fecal Sludge, Consultancy Services, Rehabilitation, Operate and Transfer (ROT) of existing public treatment plants, Facility Management, Engineering, Procurement and Contracting (EPC), and Provision of Wastewater Plant to the designated area by means of Design, Built, Operate and Transfer (DBOT), amongst several others.

The General Manager went ahead to explain that the office was planning to add an extra 10-new Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) by means of private sector participation. He also further emphasized that the decentralization of WWTPs is the most appropriate option for the State, as a centralization would only make it difficult to access in Lagos, a built-up society.

According to Engineer Mantami, asides the accessibility and huge financial cost of a centralized Wastewater in Lagos, there are other litigations likely to arise from the demolition which may come about as a result of such a venture, and this in turn, may delay the execution of the project and achievements of the desired objectives.

The Manager concluded by stating that the office was presently putting together a well-detailed publication to guide prospective investors on the various opportunities within the sector. He added that there was definitely a guaranteed return on investment particularly owing to the vast population of Lagos State.
